I’ve been in the real estate business for more than 12 years.
Over that time, I’ve had the chance to work under the same roof as hundreds of real estate agents, and to witness their successes, their hard times and, sometimes, the moments when they came close to giving up.
I’ve learned a lot. And I’m still learning.
For a while now, I’ve been thinking:
Why should I share what has built up over all these years only in meetings, trainings or one-on-one conversations?
I’d like us to talk here a bit too.
So from now on, whenever I find the time but as regularly as I can, I’ll try to write on LinkedIn a few times a week.
We’ll talk about real estate consulting, but I don’t want to talk only about sales, listings and turnover.
I want to talk a bit about why we do this work, a bit about how we keep going on hard days, a bit about making money, a bit about freedom, a bit about our failures, and a bit about how what we call success changes as the years go by.
Sometimes I’ll share what I’ve learned from the books I read, sometimes what I’ve seen in the field, and sometimes things I did years ago that today make me ask, “Why on earth did I do it that way?” :)
I have no intention of lecturing anyone on success here.
Quite the opposite…
Maybe something I’ve been through will match what an agent is going through today.
Maybe one piece will make a colleague who’s thinking of quitting say, “Wait a minute, let me give it a bit longer.”
Maybe someone thinking about becoming a real estate agent will realise this profession is a much bigger opportunity than it looks from the outside.
If it helps even one person, I think it will be worth writing.
I’ll share my side.
Join in from time to time. And where you disagree, say so.
Because I believe that if we put a bit of experience, a bit of our mistakes and a bit of what we’ve learned on the table, we all have a lot to learn from each other.
I’ll start the first piece with this question:
“Why do you do this work? What keeps you going when the money isn’t enough?”
Let’s see where it takes us.
By the way, if you’re in professional life and have ever wondered, “Could I become a real estate agent?”, we’ve prepared a short test for that too.
Maybe the result will surprise you as well. :)
